Windows 11 is now formally available. You hind end download and install it and enjoy in the all too familiar glow of a completely new OS. Non that we'd recommend doing that sensible yet. A new operating organisation always takes a little piece to bed in ahead it becomes a truly great experience, and there are sufficient little foibles with Microsoft's latest to make us believe that Windows 11 leave be no different.

Of course, plenty undergo already upgraded. (More or less of us consume had to.) But non everyone is happy with what they assure. In particular, single Valentin-Gabriel Radu has taken to Github to release an Internet Explorer Patcher for Windows 11 (via Igor's Lab). This project aims to consume the Windows 11 taskbar and start menu and replace it with incomparable that is more like the Windows 10 equivalent.

That too brings back the ability to impress your taskbar to the top, left, or right of your sieve. Hallelujah.

Given there aren't too many changes in Windows 11 over Windows 10, this seems a bit harmful. If you want to keep the Windows 10 taskbar, then you should probably non elevate to Windows 11 in the beginning.

Still, if you've already upgraded and shifting the taskbar to the leftfield isn't enough for you, and then you can checker impermissible the Github Page at issue to download the required DLL to throw your Windows 11 instalmen a downgrade back to what you presumably know and love.

To do and so, just grab the dxgi.dll file from the Releases section of the Github project and and so copy it into your C:\Windows directory. You can also copy the DLL into few other places for added functionality (check the details on the important Github page) only just to imag if it's for you, this one location is enough. Erstwhile through, restart your PC.

You'll mother a warning message the opening meter you re-start saying that Windows Internet Explorer of necessity to download some files, but just let and it complete that present. Once done, you'll be able to dredge the taskbar where you want IT—snapping to the sides if that's your thing, Oregon even to the top.

If you want to remove Explorer Patcher, then you bu have to rename the dxgi.dll to dxgio.dll and then restart Windows. You potty then delete it and continues using Windows 11 as intended.

Apparently messing with system files like this International Relations and Security Network't recommended for the faint of heart. Information technology's also not the best way of acquiring used to a new operating system, but we put on't judge here along PC Gamer. You do you.

Alan has been writing about Personal computer technical school since earlier 3D graphics cards existed, and still vividly recalls having to fight with MS-DOS just to get games to load. He fondly remembers the Orcinus orca combo of a Matrox Millenium and 3dfx Voodoo, and seeing Lara Croft in 3D for the first time. He's very glad hardware has advanced equally much as it has though, and is particularly happy when putting the latest M.2 NVMe SSDs, AMD processors, and laptops through their paces. He has a durable Magic: The Gathering fixation but limits this to MTG Arena these days.
